Maine Summer Adventure Race ~ June 24, 2017
Midcoast's Conservancy's Hidden Valley Nature Center
This year's 10-hour race will be point-to-point (no circles!) involving trail running (or hiking) and off-trail orienteering through pristine forests, biking on Maine's bucolic roads (and optional mountain biking), and a sea kayaking route specially designed by our local partner Tidal Transit Kayaks. We will also be hosting a simultaneous 3-hour race for beginner racers and for those looking to get the entire family outside for a day in the woods. This is a co-ed team style event.
Both races are hosted by the Midcoast Conservancy and designed by the members of Strong Machine Adventure Racing. All proceeds from the race benefit the Midcoast Conservancy.
The Midcoast Conservancy is a nonprofit organization created when the Damariscotta Lake Watershed Association, Hidden Valley Nature Center, Sheepscot Valley Conservation Association and Sheepscot Wellspring Land Alliance combined into a single entity in 2016. More information can be found at the Midcoast Conservancy website: http://www.midcoastconservancy.org/
The 2017 Maine Summer Adventure Race seeks to take racers on a tour of the incredible lands and waters preserved and protected by the Midcoast Conservancy and introduce racers to the organization's mission of supporting and promoting healthy lands, waters, wildlife, and people in the mid-coast through conservation, education, and recreation.
The race will be based at the Hidden Valley Nature Center in Jefferson, ME. Race check-in and start as well as the finish and post-race festivities will be held at the HVNC pavilion.
The event is presented by Strong Machine Adventure Racing. Cliff and Kate White of Strong Machine Adventure Racing are handling course design. Team Strong Machine is an experienced adventure racing team that has completed races all across the United States and internationally.
