Runners and Beer Drinkers Unite

Fitness and fun will come together this weekend at Portland’s Edward Payson Park at the Craft Brew Races. On Saturday, the national running and craft beer festival series will return to Portland on August 18th for the fifth consecutive year. A portion of the proceeds from the Portland Craft Brew Race will be donated to the Maine Brewer’s Guild.
“We’re excited to be back in Portland this year for the fifth annual event,” says Matt Gray, President of Gray Matter Marketing, which produces the event series. “Portland was the first city where our team hosted a Craft Brew Races event. Maine has a vibrant craft brewing scene, and we enjoy seeing new and old favorite breweries  join in on the fun.”
The Portland Craft Brew Race course is 3.1 mile/5K run (or walk), following a full loop of Portland’s Back Cove. The course follows Baxter Blvd. and the Back Cove Trail, featuring scenic, waterfront views throughout. Prizes are on the line for top three male and female runners, largest team, largest brewery team, and fastest team.
The race finishes just steps from the beer festival location. At the festival, in addition to included beer samples at the festival, water, Polar Seltzer and Kind Snacks will be available to runners. Food vendors will also be on site. Designated driver and festival-only tickets are available. 
The run starts at noon, with the festival doors opening at 12:30. All 5K participants and festival-goers receive a pint glass and entry to the festival — including beer sampling, live music, vendors and food trucks selling onsite. All designated driver ticket-holders receive a different bracelet at registration, and are welcome to enjoy the festival, designated snacks, and non-alcoholic beverages. The event is 21+ only.

Maine Children's Cancer Program Walk

Please join us for the 2018 Maine Children's Cancer Program Walk, Saturday, September 15th at 9am at multiple locations across the state of Maine, including:

  • Portland - starts and ends at Payson Park
  • Rockland - starts and ends at South School
  • Rumford - starts and ends at Hosmer Athletic Fields Complex
  • Waterville - starts and ends at Alfond Youth Center

Hundreds of people will be participating statewide as we walk in solidarity to show support and raise funds and awareness for local kids battling cancer and blood disorders. Every dollar raised stays here in Maine and supports state-of-the-art cancer treatment, psychosocial services for patients and their families, and research to help find a cure for childhood cancer. With your support, we can collectively make a huge difference in the lives of local children battling cancer.

Each walk will begin at 9am, with registration and pre-walk activities starting at 8am. Please note: all Walk routes are roughly 3 miles long, so be sure to wear comfortable walking shoes. Baby strollers are welcome, and so are dogs on leashes!

NRCM Polar Bear Dip & Dash

NRCM's 11th Annual 

The 5k registration will open at 9:00 a.m. at the Back Cove Parking lot. The race will start at 11 a.m. The dip will be at noon at East End Beach, Portland. A shuttle will return participants to the Back Cove parking lot after the dip. If you are dipping only, head straight to East End Beach where registration will open at 11 AM. 

The non-refundable, early "bear" registration fee to dip, dash, or both is $30 until November 15 and then increases to $35. Additionally, friends and family can pledge you through our secure webpages. See prizes for hitting fundraising levels below.

A 5k and polar bear dip in winter in Maine to raise funds to combat global warming is fitting. Weather patterns are changing from one extreme to the next and our seas are rising. The effects of climate change on Maine’s environment are severe.

Energy efficiency, clean air, and renewable energy sources are a priority for NRCM. Every cent you raise will be used to directly support this work to reduce global warming emissions.

Ripple Across Portland

Grab your friends/family/colleagues and sign up today! This is the inaugural year of Portland's best new Fall event. Teams of 6 must raise at least $400.  September 22nd, teams tap into the Social Scavenger app to compete in an epic series of challenges throughout Portland earning points for each activity completed. Some challenges will be easy...  say, ask a stranger what their favorite song is and sing it to them! And, some will be much more difficult like building your own raft with some duct tape, then completing a challenge in Casco Bay. (Or, something crazy fun like that.)

Beat your opponents and the winners will earn a lobster bake on Cow Island.  Plus, we'll kickoff with a pre-party on Friday night and end with a celebration on Saturday that includes local food, tasty (adult) beverages, and music for all participants.

The event is 21+.  All that we ask is that your team does a bit of fundraising to support Rippleffect, a vibrant 501(c)3 whose mission is to promote youth development and leadership through adventure, healthy communities, and living sustainably. Or in other words, with Ripple Across Portland, you'll get to have fun and do good. That way, you'll know that you've won before you even begin the adventure! Two winning teams will emerge, one from the Open Adventure Challenge and one from the Corporate Team Challenge.

In memory of John W Griffin, a pipefitter, city councilor, & Navy Veteran who died in 2003 of cancer caused by Mesothelioma during his years as a pipefitter and exposure to asbestos. All proceeds from this event will go towards Mesothelioma Research.
