Maine's Lakes & Mountains

Maine’s Lakes & Mountains Region is a four-season recreation destination, boasting ten of Maine’s highest peaks and hundreds of glacial lakes. Several of Maine’s largest lakes are located here, including Sebago, Flagstaff, and Rangeley.

Canoe along tranquil ponds, explore expansive lakes by power boat or follow the historic Northern Forest Canoe Trail in an unassuming kayak. Lofty mountaintops beckon hikers to explore scenic trails, including a state-of-the-art huts and trails system and the famed Appalachian Trail. Numerous biking trails (on and off road) and golf courses can be found throughout the region.

The Androscoggin River is known for world-class bass fishing, and the corridor from Rumford to Canton has been featured in Field & Stream for its story-sized catches. Ice fishing is also a popular sport in the region.

Our mountains feature some of the most challenging ski terrain in New England with 2,800-foot verticals and snowboard parks, and have state-of-the-art snowmaking and grooming. Nearly two dozen cross-country centers offer well-groomed trails for skiers and snowshoers alike. With 5,000 miles of snowmobile trails, our extensive system offers up some incredible scenery.

With peaceful lakes and mountain vistas just three hours from Boston and one hour from the Portland Jetport, we invite you to host your event in Maine’s Lakes & Mountains region.

Lewiston / Auburn

Two cities. One great adventure. Lewiston and Auburn, known as the Twin Cities, are home to an avid hockey community, the Androscoggin River and the ever-popular Dempsey Challenge.

Doors opened in 2013 at the Norway Savings Bank Arena, a twin rink ice arena located in Auburn; the two cities now have four sheets of regulation ice within minutes of each other. The Androscoggin River hosts canoe, kayak and rowing events, while the section just north of town is a draw for many bass fishing tournaments. Also a popular bicycling destination, the area is home to the Dempsey Challenge, created by actor and Maine native, Patrick Dempsey.

Combined, Bates College, the local community college and three high schools offer multiple soccer fields, ball fields, and track facilities. Seven championship golf courses are located within twenty miles of downtown L/A. Also on the outskirts of town is Lake Auburn, a favorite fishing hole for bass and trout.

Joined by the Androscoggin River, both cities offer walkable downtowns boasting a wide variety of destination restaurants, art galleries, performances, and festivals with plenty to do for event participants and non-participants alike. With more than 1,000 hotel rooms and the Portland International Jetport and Amtrak located just 45 minutes away, Lewiston-Auburn is geared up to host your event.
