Farm to Fork Fondo Maine Celebrates Farms, Food, Bicycles and Open Space in Vacationland

FREEPORT, Maine Wrenegade Sports introduced this week Farm to Fork Fondo Maine, a mass-participation cycling event to be held at Wolfe's Neck Farm in Freeport over the August 27-28, 2016 weekend. Farm to Fork Fondo - Maine will highlight the region's vibrant farm-to-table movement with mid-ride aid stations hosted by local farms with treats from the farm, a post-ride Maine lobsterbake and farm to fork barebecue; and a pre-ride dinner in the Wolfe's Neck Farm Mallet Barn. Farm to Fork Fondo-Maine offers bicycle rides and activities for people of all ages and all abilities.

"We could not be more excited to bring the Farm to Fork Fondo series to Maine next summer," said Wrenegade Sports principal, Tyler Wren, who organizes similar events in Vermont, Hudson Valley and Pennsylvania Dutch country. "This area of Maine has the perfect combination of beautiful farmland, proud rural communities and an exciting story to tell that allows us to fulfill our mission of creating a unique and exciting experience that highlights and supports the symbiotic relatinoship between cyclists, farmers and open space."

Farm to Fork Fondo-Maine is capped at 450 participants and is expected to sell out. Each of the other events in the Farm to Fork Fondo series has drawn participants from more than twenty states, with a similar broad demographic expected in Maine. "When I learned about the opportunity to bring the Farm to Fork Fondo to Maine, I thought this program would be such a natural fit for our beautiful state," said Elissa English, Director of Sales & Marketing, Greater Portland Convention + Visitors Bureau. "A national cycling event with an international professional cyclist presence that showcases the passion in our farm to table culture. Our farmland provides such a beautiful, natural backdrop for outdoor sporting. This is an amazing addition to our 2016 calendar of events in Southern Maine!"

Farm to Fork Fondo weekend activities also include: a bicycle skills clinics for riders of all abilities led by the Colavita | Bianchi Professional Cycling Team; a talk on the local agriculture; local and cycling industry vendors; more than $10,000 in raffle prizes; live music; Kids' Mini-Fondo; farm tours; and more. All activities are hosted by Wolfe's Neck Farm in Freeport, Maine.

Volunteers filling jobs such as staffing aid stations and marshaling intersections will be organized into teams each representing different local farms or charitable farm organizations. With their support and creativity, these teams will compete for participants' votes, and will all win cash donations for the farms and organizations they represent.
