Runners and Beer Drinkers Unite

Fitness and fun will come together this weekend at Portland’s Edward Payson Park at the Craft Brew Races. On Saturday, the national running and craft beer festival series will return to Portland on August 18th for the fifth consecutive year. A portion of the proceeds from the Portland Craft Brew Race will be donated to the Maine Brewer’s Guild.

“We’re excited to be back in Portland this year for the fifth annual event,” says Matt Gray, President of Gray Matter Marketing, which produces the event series. “Portland was the first city where our team hosted a Craft Brew Races event. Maine has a vibrant craft brewing scene, and we enjoy seeing new and old favorite breweries  join in on the fun.”

The Portland Craft Brew Race course is 3.1 mile/5K run (or walk), following a full loop of Portland’s Back Cove. The course follows Baxter Blvd. and the Back Cove Trail, featuring scenic, waterfront views throughout. Prizes are on the line for top three male and female runners, largest team, largest brewery team, and fastest team.

The race finishes just steps from the beer festival location. At the festival, in addition to included beer samples at the festival, water, Polar Seltzer and Kind Snacks will be available to runners. Food vendors will also be on site. Designated driver and festival-only tickets are available.

The run starts at noon, with the festival doors opening at 12:30. All 5K participants and festival-goers receive a pint glass and entry to the festival — including beer sampling, live music, vendors and food trucks selling onsite. All designated driver ticket-holders receive a different bracelet at registration, and are welcome to enjoy the festival, designated snacks, and non-alcoholic beverages. The event is 21+ only.

More than 30 breweries will be pouring samples of their brews at the festival, in addition to food and product vendors. Visit craftbrewraces.com for a full vendor list and tickets.

Of the vendors, there are 18 Maine-based breweries participating in the event:

Allagash Brewing Company (Portland)
Definitive Brewing Company (Portland)
Liberty Craft Brewing (Liberty)
News-capes Brewing (Portland)
Geary Brewing Co. (Portland)

8th Annual AIDS Walk/Run of Central Maine

8th Annual AIDS Walk/Run of Central Maine
Saturday May 13, 2017 9 a.m.
Waterfront Park, Hallowell, ME

(Rain or Shine)

Plans for the 8th annual AIDS Walk/Run of Central Maine benefitting the Horizon Program at MaineGeneral Medical Center are well under way! This is our biggest fundraiser of the year and we need your help.
The mission of the Horizon Program is to provide quality, compassionate, and comprehensive medical and social services to all identified people living with HIV/AIDS in central and mid-coast Maine. With a clinic in Gardiner and offices in Augusta, the program provides:

*A clinic for medical services and interaction with health care professionals;

*Case management for people living with HIV/AIDS;

*Educational programs and community outreach;

*Support for people infected and affected by HIV/AIDS.

Incredible progress has been made in the fight against HIV/AIDS, but a cure has not been found. Every year there are still 50,000 new HIV/AIDS cases nationwide and we need to continue to raise awareness to prevent this disease.

Whether it is a friend, parent, child, relative or significant other, many people are touched by HIV/AIDS. We walk to pay tribute to those loved ones who have died and support those who are living with this disease.

Bradbury Mountain Snowshoe Series: Bradbury Whiteout

Join us for the Bradbury White Out! The White Out is 4 mile Snowshoe at Bradbury Mountain State Park. Limited spots available.

Thanks to Dion Snowshoes, we are able to offer a very limited number of rental snowshoes for all of our races.

Snowshoes are available on a first come, first served basis to registered racers for $5 per race. As a registered racer, you will receive an email approximately 2 weeks before the race asking if you would like to reserve a pair. You must respond to that email- no prior requests will be accepted. Payment will be accepted at registration check-in- CASH ONLY.

Ultimately, all racers are responsible for having snowshoes at the race. In the same way that we cannot provide running shoes, we can’t be expected to provide snowshoes. We do our best to accommodate everyone, but having the proper gear is the racer’s responsibility.

Robert Burns 10K

The idea of the Robert Burns 10k race was born out of conversation over good food, wine and beer, and positive vibes at our fellow comrade Chips rooftop patio. Having for so many years competed in events, we were excited and passionate to finally learn the ropes of putting on a well managed race ourselves. We agreed that the event should be unique, support a good cause, and have a special personal element connected to the theme of the race. Both of us celebrate our ancestry and connection to the cultural gifts of the Scottish Heritage, and thought of who better to embody the spirit of this race Than Robert Burns- The most cherished and celebrated Poet from Scotland. The proceeds of the race will go to the Westbrook High School Alternative Learning Bike Shop, a hands-on learning program for kids who are at risk of dropping out. We believe that people learn in many different ways, and all too often schools don't provide adequate options for hands on/ alternative learning. Many children's full potential to learn is not realized simply due to the fact that different learning styles are not embraced and cultivated in the education system, and that is something we are trying to change. In this program kids learn about science and physics through the mechanics of bicycle repair. Ned Swain & Myles Courtney, race founders.
