Plans for the 8th annual AIDS Walk/Run of Central Maine benefitting the Horizon Program at MaineGeneral Medical Center are well under way! This is our biggest fundraiser of the year and we need your help. 
The mission of the Horizon Program is to provide quality, compassionate, and comprehensive medical and social services to all identified people living with HIV/AIDS in central and mid-coast Maine. With a clinic in Gardiner and offices in Augusta, the program provides:

*A clinic for medical services and interaction with health care professionals;

*Case management for people living with HIV/AIDS;

*Educational programs and community outreach;

*Support for people infected and affected by HIV/AIDS.

Incredible progress has been made in the fight against HIV/AIDS, but a cure has not been found. Every year there are still 50,000 new HIV/AIDS cases nationwide and we need to continue to raise awareness to prevent this disease.

Whether it is a friend, parent, child, relative or significant other, many people are touched by HIV/AIDS. We walk to pay tribute to those loved ones who have died and support those who are living with this disease.

This is a running training group made simple and social! The Run Club features coaching, structured training, group runs, and fun social gatherings of runners of all abilities. All paces are welcome to participate, run, learn and get in shape for whatever goal you are targeting. With the registration fee, each person will receive one technical running shirt (one t-shirt or singlet) and one other custom FFSMR product. As part of the "Run Club" running program, participants will receive the following: 

  • A year long structured training program
  • Dedicated support and individual counseling from a "Run Club" coach
  • 3 group training sessions during the week (option of 5 if you attend both Portland + Brunswick!)
  • Group training sessions each week will be formatted as follows:
    • One day of 3-5 easy miles
    • One day of structured workout including strength, pacing and speed
    • Saturdays will typically be a longer endurance run varying from 4-10 miles, depending on race season
  • Information clinics by coaches and vendors on proper footwear, gear, injury prevention, nutrition featuring product try ons and more!

  • Race Course Preview Training Runs 
  • Winter Warrior Training - Winter Workouts to maintain strength and endurance....and brave the Maine Winter elements!

6th Annual Miles for Mills ~ Travis Mills Foundation


Registration is open for the 2018 Miles for Mills 5k presented by T-Mobile!  If you only run one 5K a year, we hope that you will consider joining us~

Memorial Day – Monday, May 28, 2018 – for Miles for Mills 2018- Presented by T- Mobile


Miles for Mills began in 2012 shortly after SSG Mills was critically injured as an event to support The Mills Family on their road to recovery. Today, it is the Travis Mills Foundations signature community fundraiser to raise critical funds to support combat-injured veterans and their families on a similar road to recovery. This year is the 6th anniversary of Miles for Mills and since SSG Mills was injured! Our goal is to make this our biggest and best year yet. This year will include chip timing, detailed course outlines, marked hazards, water stations, and after party at Cushnoc Brewing Company.

Registration for the event has started and we encourage everyone to sign up as soon as possible! This year each participant will receive an optional fundraising page. Each participant that raises $100 or more will receive a free New Balance t-shirt with our custom Miles for Mills- presented by T-Mobile logo. There will be limited quantities of shirts available for purchase on the day of the race. Your fundraising support will help us continue our mission in the 2018 season!

Event day: Announcements and National Anthem will begin at 8:30 am. Day of event registration will go from 7:00 am to 8:30 am. Day of event registration is $25. Parking available in downtown Augusta.

Route: The run will take place in downtown Augusta. This is a low, flat course that offers speed for competitive participants, and a safe, walkable, family-friendly course for everyone.

Timing: Chip Timing will be offered this year. Bibs with RFID tags will be used for live timing.

Support: This year, each participant will receive an optional fundraising page. Participants who raise $100 or more receive a free New Balance t-shirt! There will be limited quantities available for purchase on event day. Your fundraising support helps fund 2018 families who will attend the retreat.

Kids: This event is family friendly! Kids may run alongside a registered, participating adult. Please, no pets. Strollers are allowed and requested to remain in the back of the race.

Prizes: Given to the top male & female in each category and top 3 finishers overall.

39th Annual 4.5-mile January Thaw Road Race

Join Central Maine Striders for the 39th annual 4.5-mile January Thaw Road Race!
This year’s race is scheduled for Sunday, January 21, at 11 a.m. at the Belgrade Central School.
Run ~ Walk ~ Waddle!

The top female and male runners will receive $50 gift certificates each from New Balance.
There also will be a post-race raffle for all runners with movie passes to local movie theaters, $20 gift certificates from local businesses like the Korner Store and Deli in Oakland, and gift certificates from local lumberyards. All runners get lightweight cotton gloves.

Refreshments will be served after the race in the Belgrade Central School cafeteria and will include oranges, bananas, hot chili, dark chocolate brownies, and Poland Spring water.
In case of severe weather, the race will be held on Sunday, January 28

  • Race fee: $10 on the day of the race (please make out checks to Central Maine Striders)

Help us prepare for Santa with a 5k through the streets of Waldoboro!

What if it snows? We run in the snow in Waldoboro. No, really. What if it snows a lot? In Waldoboro, we run in the snow.

Will there be prizes? Yup. Stay tuned!  

Can I dress in a ridiculous costume? Sure. We encourage it. There will even be a prize for the best costume! 

Can I dress up in a Hannukah theme? Go for it.

What time does Santa come? 6pm. Local businesses will be open in the village with hot drinks and cookies and other fun stuff. Or you could go to the Narrows Tavern and watch the Patriots play. 

What if I just want to walk? Walkers are absolutely welcome. The more the merrier! Just keep in mind that sunset on the 17th is at 4:01, because winter is the worst.

What if I cheat? Two words: naughty list.

Robert Burns 10k Road Race

The idea of the Robert Burns 10k race was born out of conversation over good food, wine and beer, and positive vibes at our fellow comrade Chips rooftop patio. Having for so many years competed in events, we were excited and passionate to finally learn the ropes of putting on a well managed race ourselves. We agreed that the event should be unique, support a good cause, and have a special personal element connected to the theme of the race. Both of us celebrate our ancestry and connection to the cultural gifts of the Scottish Heritage, and thought of who better to embody the spirit of this race Than Robert Burns- The most cherished and celebrated Poet from Scotland. The proceeds of the race will go to the Westbrook High School Alternative Learning Bike Shop, a hands-on learning program for kids who are at risk of dropping out. We believe that people learn in many different ways, and all too often schools don’t provide adequate options for hands on/ alternative learning. Many children’s full potential to learn is not realized simply due to the fact that different learning styles are not embraced and cultivated in the education system, and that is something we are trying to change. In this program kids learn about science and physics through the mechanics of bicycle repair. -Ned Swain & Myles Courtney, race founders.

• The Ugly Sweater 5K and Merry Fun Run / Walk Mile are part of the Very Merry Falmouth weekend celebration with many events on Friday and Saturday. The 5K is at 9 AM and the Fun Run / Walk is at 10 AM.

• The venue is located on the green space near Shaws Supermarket next to Route 1. The start and finish lines are next to the green space. 

• Bib pick up and race day registration is in the tent on the green space. 

• Refreshments will be available to runners and walkers after each event. 

• Parking will be available in the outer lots next to Route 1 keeping spaces available closer to Shaws for their customers. 

• Directions – The green space at Shaws on Rt 1 is near the intersection with Bucknam Road. Those coming from outside Falmouth can take exit 10 of Rt 295. 
Ugly Sweater 5K at 9 AM - Details  
• Registration fee includes t-shirt if one registers before November 15. The fee is $30.00. Walkers are strongly discouraged from entering this event. The Fun Run / Walk is intended for any walkers. 

• Course – Rt 1 south to Rt 88. North to Old Mill, turn right, left on to Edgewater, right on to Anderson, left on to Ridgeway, left on to Rt 88, right on to Depot, right on to pedestrian way along Rt 1, right on to Shaws entrance to finish line. 

• Awards – First place male and female plus first place of each 10 year age group; 5K runners with Ugly Sweaters also eligible for first, second or third place awards for ugliest sweatshirt. 

• T-Shirts are available to runners who sign up by November 24. Ugly Sweater Merry Fun Run/Walk Mile at 10 AM - Details  
• Registration fee is free with ugly sweater. Donations are encouraged to support the Falmouth Library. The suggested amount is $15.00. T-shirts are available at extra cost. Runners and walkers will not be timed. This is an event to show off one’s ugly sweater and parade along Rt 1. 

• Course is down and back along the pedestrian way next to Rt 1.
• Awards – First, second and third place awards will be given to the ugliest sweaters as voted by runners, walkers and spectators. 5K runners can participate. 
• T-Shirts are available for sale in advance by November 24
