Bar Harbor Bank & Trust Half Marathon & 5k

In 1913, John Rockefeller Jr. built a series of carriage roads so he could avoid cars in the Acadia National Park. Nine miles of the Bar Harbor Bank & Trust Half Marathon run on that still-existing system of hard-packed trails. The hilly course starts in the small, picturesque fishing town of Bar Harbor, then cuts into the National Park. Dense forest engulfs runners as they cross several old granite bridges before looping back to town.

Last Man Standing

Last Man Standing Ultramarathon is a backyard ultra race held on the pristine, wooded trails of Pineland Farms in New Gloucester, Maine. The course is a 4.2 mile loop with double track and some moderate elevation gain.

The LMS course is as inviting as it is challenging. Those who are new to trail running and the backyard ultra format may find themselves completing new personal best distances. Trail veterans will push against their toughest limits and break through them!

Race organizers will provide a large tent with water and some snack food. There will also be food for sale in the afternoon and evening on Saturday. We strongly encourage you to visit Pineland Farms Market for fantastic locally grown and prepared foods. Racers are responsible for their own nutrition.

Racing starts at 12 noon on Saturday. Racers will complete the course at whatever pace they choose, but they must complete the loop in less than 60 minutes. Those that complete the course in under an hour will earn the right to continue. The next lap start is at 1pm. Same loop, same rules apply. The race continues in this format until there is only one athlete remaining. The lone athlete must be able to complete 1 more lap than the runner up to be declared the Last Man Standing and the winner. If no one is able to complete 1 more lap than the field, there will be no winner.

The non-profit marathon committee is a mix of volunteers representing both Lubec and Campobello. Its meetings alternate between the two countries. The committee is looking for volunteers to fill coordinator roles. If interested, the committee meets every Tuesday, 6:00-7:30 p.m. eastern/7:00-8:30 p.m. Atlantic, in-person and visa Zoom online. ‍Remote and rural marathon, in one of America’s and Canada’s most quiet corners. The two beautiful places — Lubec, Maine and Campobello Island, New Brunswick, — share shorelines, clean air, cool temperatures in June and lighthouses that have guided the way for mariners for generations. Now comes the return of marathoners. BFIM, held annually from 2013 to 2019 was named as one of the 50 most loved and most talked about marathons in the USA (by Trip Advisor); a “bucket list” marathon – one “every Canadian runner should aim to do in their lifetime” (by Canadian Race Guide); and a “small town wonder” (by Runner’s World). BFIM is one of only three marathons to cross the international border between Canada and the USA.

Starting at the most easterly point in the USA, West Quoddy Lighthouse, the rolling Marathon course offers miles of water and harbor views. Crossing from the International border by way of the FDR Memorial Bridge and Lubec Narrows, the course takes runners past the FDR Summer Home in Roosevelt Campobello International Park. Traversing stunning Campobello Island over to Head Harbor Light, the course then retraces its steps back across the bridge to finish along Water Street in the heart of Lubec.

Millinocket Marathon

First held in 2015 as a self-timed, glorified flash mob, the Millinocket Marathon & Half was started to help Maine’s most prominent mill town, which was devastated by the closing of their major employer, Great Northern Paper Company. Runner’s World Magazine picked up the story shortly after, and the rest is history.

Help keep Millinocket running for years to come! Although there is no formal entry fee to run the Millinocket Marathon & Half, all participants are strongly encouraged to make a donation at the time of registration to support the bare minimum race expenses. These expenses include race timing, course certification, port-a-johns, bus transportation, and insurance. Anything raised above and beyond our essential race expenses will be donated to local charitable groups and organizations.

The Millinocket Marathon & Half is organized entirely by volunteers who are not compensated for their time. All donations go directly to supporting race expenses and the community.

If you are not running or you didn’t chip in at time of registration but would love to support the race please click HERE to make a donation to help cover our race expenses.

Sugarloaf Marathon & 15K

Over the years the Sugarloaf Marathon has become extremely popular among running enthusiasts from around the world. With a strict limit of 1,500 participants, this race will sell out. Located in the mountains of Western Maine, the Sugarloaf Marathon follows scenic route 27 as it winds through the Bigelow Mountain range and follows the Carrabassett River. The course starts in the town of Eustis, travels through Carrabassett Valley and finishes in the town of Kingfield. The first 5 miles of the race are relatively flat, miles 5-10 consist of rolling hills with a steady two-mile climb at mile 8. The last 16 miles has a gradual decent with an elevation loss of 980 feet. Marathon runners continue to record personal-best times while racing Sugarloaf.
